Just this week, me and my sister watched this mystery/thriller korean drama titled ‘ White Christmas’ and this question is the theme throughout the episodes. Are monsters born, or are they made ?
Well, for me, you can be either born or made. People who have mental disabilities- some of them are born that way, and because of that mental disorder, they don’t have a sense of right and wrong. But, nowadays, the world seems to be more cruel than we thought – and because of the chaos around, monsters are made. There are times that you must turn into a monster in order to fight a monster. Like what the drama implies, each of us has its own monster, and its up to us if it will take over ourselves.
The sad thing is, people nowadays thinks that becoming a monster is part of survival. You won’t care if others would be hurt. The word ‘ sacrifice’ would mean less to you as time goes by. Your sense of morality would be put to test. And, the worst part is, you take all everything in.
There’s a saying that villains won’t exist if they didn’t get hurt. Yes, its true, pain does change us. But do we need to change into a monster ?
Life is hard. I know it, because once upon a time, the monster in me almost took over in. But i thought of all the good things that happened to me, and i thought ‘ if i do this, would it change anything ? or if it does, would it change for the better ? ‘
Monsters are born, monsters are made. And i believe that through the power of our faith to God and to ourselves, we can beat the monster. It’s up to us.
“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
